SSSM Virtual Training Course
Strategies for Success in Secondary Mathematics (SSSM)
For APPEL Special Education participants
This 4.0-credit-hour course fulfills the secondary mathematics competency requirement for the APPEL Special Education program.
Course Overview
This course is delivered entirely virtually and includes both synchronous (virtual, during a specific date and time) and asynchronous (at times convenient for you, but within a weekly deadline) learning opportunities.
While much of the work can be completed asynchronously at a time that works best for you, the synchronous portion will require full, active engagement. Please be sure that during these sessions, you are not distracted and are in a place where you have access to a computer and can engage with colleagues in a classroom-like setting.
This will be a fun, engaging, and interactive course.
You do not need to be actively teaching secondary math to take this course. However, participants are expected to be fully present during synchronous class sessions in a setting that allows full participation.

Live Virtual Sessions

Sept. 17; Oct. 22; Nov. 12 & 19; Dec. 1: Virtual synchronous sessions, 4:30 PM–8:00 PM MT

Asynchronous Learning

September 17 to November 1 (Approximately 22 hours of self-paced coursework)
Payment & Reimbursement
The course may be fully reimbursed by the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) if you meet the completion requirements, including earning a grade of C or better and submitting a reimbursement request with proof of full payment and a certificate of completion.
A $100 deposit is required for registration, with the remaining $325 due upon completion. This fee covers all course costs; there are no additional material costs.
After submitting the registration form, participants will receive payment instructions for the $100 deposit. Participants may also pay the full amount upfront.
Registration will be confirmed once payment is received.
For USBE reimbursement requirements, participants can access the reimbursement information/form provided by USBE.
Upon Completion
Participants will receive:
